Vespa continues to carefully develop the mega-successful VESPA GTS range. The 2019 model year, which will be presented this week at the EICMA show in Milan, features 5 versions: Vespa GTS, GTS Touring, GTS Super, GTS SuperSport and the brand new Vespa GTS SuperTech with color TFT speedometer and VESPA MIA connectivity platform for your smartphone. As engines, there is the proven 125cc i-get single-cylinder engine and the new 300ccm HPE (High Performance Engine) drive. With 23.8 hp (17,5kW) at 8,250 rpm and 26 Nm (5,250 rpm), it is the most powerful engine ever offered in a Vespa. At the same time the consumption could be lowered, Vespa says 29.4km / liter to WMTC standard. The transmission was packed in a new sound-absorbing housing, variomatic, V-belt, cylinder head and camshaft are completely new. The engine control unit of Magnet Marelli MIUG4 ECU is the latest generation and is already compatible with the future Euro 5 standard.
The design has evolved in details. Headlights and tail lights are now completely coming in LED technology. The horn cover has been redesigned, reminiscent of the front of the Vespa Sprint. Handlebars, mirrors and side panels have been slightly changed and give the GTS a slimmer appearance.
The seat has been redesigned for comfort and got a more comfortable padding. In the glove box is now a USB charging socket.
The 125cc i-Get engines have the patented start-stop system called RISS (Regulator Inverter Start Stop System) which automatically shuts off the warm engine after 5 seconds standing. A fold-out kickstand prevents the automatic restart. The small engine version delivers 12 hp (9 kW) of power at 8,250 rpm and a strong 11.1 Nm at 6,750 rpm. The consumption is, according to Piaggio, 40km / liter (WMTC cycle).
As usual, the frame is a self-supporting steel body, the tires are 12 inches in size and a dual disc brake with standard ABS ensures prompt deceleration. An anti-slip control provides propulsion without spinning tires.
The Vespa MIA connectivity system connects the Vespa to the iOS or Android smartphone via Bluetooth and its own App. At the speedometer incoming calls and messages are displayed, calls can be accepted with a kind of joystick on the handlebars. This little knob can also control and play a music playlist. The GTS SuperTech has this Vespa MIA system as series, with the other GTS models it can be optionally selected.
